Masked But Made Up: Beauty Favorites for Masks

It’s a weird time for beauty, and since masks have become mandatory indoors and outdoors, I have realized a few things. I’ve tweaked my makeup a little bit to fit this new normal of every day mask wearing.

Eyes

I normally wear light eye makeup and choose to add a brighter pop of color to my cheeks, but now as my face is covered by a mask, I basically look like I’m not wearing any makeup at all. Since the eyes are now the only feature people see, I have had to accentuate them in order to get that pop, and this Chanel eyeliner has made a big difference.

Really pigmented, long wearing and water resistant, this eyeliner lasts all day smudged across the lash line or in the water line. It comes with a hidden sharpener on one end, perfect for when you’re going for a more precise application.

Brows

Eyebrows have never been more important than they are now. A masked face means that brows are essentially the only way to show expression. I have been making sure mine are properly filled in and shaped with the NYX eyebrow pencil.

This pencil lasts all day and is just the right texture. It’s not too creamy, not too waxy, and very user friendly. It has a spoolie on one end that I use to brush out my brows with for a more natural look after filling them in.

Lips

I find myself still taking my mask off every now and then throughout the day. Whether that be to eat my lunch, take my espresso break, or have that 1 meter distanced conversation with someone, I still wanted to have some color on my lips. Lipstick and gloss are out of the question for me, so I found myself relying more and more on a longtime favorite, the Clarins Eau à Levres.

It is a lip stain to give the lightest flush of color or can be built up to a full lip. It dries matte and stays put, leaving a beautiful stain on the lips that won’t budge. I have always loved this product, but it has become a necessity during this pandemic when I still want to have something on the lips. The texture is like light like water and is really comfortable on.

Face

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve stopped wearing powder. My skin has gotten drier, but I also prefer dewy, more natural makeup now. Enter Covid. The masks were rubbing off my carefully concealed maskne and leaving me feeling a little less than secure. I have started setting the areas of my face covered by the mask with a little bit of powder, and it has really helped.

The Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish powder is an ultra fine powder that sets and perfects makeup. It helps keep any foundation and/or concealer in place and prolongs the wear even after hours under a mask.
